By Trixee Rosel
The Quezon City government warned of possible flooding in low‑lying areas along the Tullahan River on Tuesday, Aug. 18, as La Mesa Dam reached Alert Level 3 amid continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon (Habagat).
As of 10 a.m., the dam’s water level stood at 79.69 meters, with excess water expected to affect low-lying areas in Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, and San Bartolome.
The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (QCDRRMD) continued its 24/7 monitoring of water levels and weather conditions as the city remained on alert for possible effects of the continuing rains.
The Marikina River was at 14.29 meters, while the Quirino (Tullahan) River and San Juan River were at 38.84 meters and 11.48 meters, respectively, with no alert level issued for the three waterways.
Response and rescue teams remained on standby in various parts of the city, while the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) continued monitoring incidents and developments in different parts of the city.
The city government urged residents, particularly those in areas that could be affected by rising water levels, to remain vigilant and monitor official advisories for updates.
Quezon City residents were advised to take appropriate precautions in case of flooding and to contact the QC Helpline 122 for emergencies.
