Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval assured residents that the local government will continue responding to their needs as heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon (Habagat) persist.
Sandoval said on Tuesday, Aug. 18, that the city government is closely monitoring weather conditions, waterways, and flood-prone areas while maintaining preparations for possible flooding and other emergencies.
“Patuloy ang ating mahigpit na monitoring at paghahanda kasama ang MDRRMO at iba pang katuwang na ahensya upang agad na makatugon sa anumang epekto ng Habagat (We continue to closely monitor the situation and prepare together with the MDRRMO and other partner agencies so we can immediately respond to any impact of the habagat),” Sandoval said.
“We are prepared, and our fellow Malabueños can be assured that we will respond to their needs amid the heavy rains. We ask our residents to cooperate and remain vigilant,” she added.
The Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) continues to monitor weather advisories, nearby rivers and tributaries, flood markers, tide conditions, and flood-prone barangays.

Rescue trucks and response teams have also been deployed to their respective areas of responsibility.
The city’s Command and Communication Center has been activated as the Emergency Operations Center, while city and barangay disaster risk reduction and management councils remain on standby for possible emergencies.
The City Social Welfare and Development Department has prepositioned relief goods and food packs, while other city offices have prepared medicines, emergency supplies, rescue equipment, vehicles, generators, tents, fuel, and other resources for possible evacuation and emergency operations.
Search and rescue teams from the MDRRMO, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) - Malabon, Philippine National Police (PNP) - Malabon, Philippine Red Cross-Malabon, barangay disaster risk reduction and management councils, and volunteer groups have also been prepositioned.
The City Engineering Office continues to inspect pumping stations and floodgates to ensure they are operational, while debris-clearing teams remain on standby.
The Public Safety and Traffic Management Office also deployed free-ride trucks on Monday to assist commuters in areas affected by flooding.
City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete urged residents, particularly those living in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain alert, monitor official advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel.
He also advised families to be ready to evacuate if conditions worsen and authorities order them to leave their homes.
The city government said it will continue monitoring conditions and providing residents with weather advisories and safety information.
