GOSSIP GIRL: Aubrey Miles, Troy Montero finish second at HYROX Thailand
Bangkok, Thailand—Some couples celebrate wedding anniversaries with candlelit dinners. Aubrey Miles and Troy Montero celebrate theirs by sprinting, sledding, and dragging kettlebells across a finish line—together.
The pair, who are counting down to 23 years as a couple, have found a new obsession that’s put their decades-long partnership to the test in the best way possible: HYROX, the grueling global fitness race that combines running with functional strength stations.
“Running has always been there, but it’s back again,” Aubrey shared, beaming. “And now it’s HYROX.”
Their first stop was HYROX Hong Kong, where the couple raced as a mixed doubles team and crossed the finish line in solid shape—landing fourth overall in their age group. For a debut, that’s nothing to scoff at, especially considering who they were up against.
“There’s pros, lots of pros,” Aubrey explained. “The competitors we were up against—some of them have been joining for years. And this was our first time. So fourth place? That’s not bad.”
It’s a telling comment from a couple who, by their own admission, don’t do anything halfway.
“Maybe because we’re just competitive,” Aubrey laughed. “When we join something, we want to win. We just don’t want to join for the sake of joining.”
That competitive fire clearly runs in the family unit they’ve built—famously known as one of Philippine showbiz’s most enduring couples. And it hasn’t cooled off with age; if anything, it’s found a new outlet.
Aubrey noted that most of the field skews international—Americans and Europeans dominate the pro ranks—and that many of their toughest rivals are, in fact, the same age.
“Given, they’ll win,” she said of the seasoned frontrunners, “and they’re probably younger—no, same age group, same age.”
Two weeks after Hong Kong, the pair packed their bags again—this time for HYROX Bangkok, ready to chase an even better finish. And chase it they did.
Racing in the Doubles Mixed 50-54 division, Aubrey and Troy powered through the course to clock 1:16:42—good enough for the silver medal, second place on the podium.
It’s the payoff of a mantra the couple apparently repeats to each other at every single training session. As Troy put it on Instagram after the race: “Every time we train, we always say the same thing to each other: ‘Podium. Podium.’”
From fourth in their HYROX debut to a podium finish two weeks later—that’s not luck, that’s the competitive streak Aubrey talked about showing up exactly when it counts.
After 23 years together, Aubrey Miles and Troy Montero aren’t slowing down. They’re lacing up, timing their splits, and proving that the strongest relationships are the ones still willing to chase the podium side by side.
