The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Tuesday, Aug. 18, offered psychosocial support to individuals affected by a shooting incident at a school in Zamboanga City that left two students dead.
In a statement, DSWD expressed its condolences to the families of those who died and to the survivors and witnesses of the incident.
The agency said its social workers were coordinating with the Zamboanga City local government and other concerned agencies to provide psychosocial support and psychological first aid to affected individuals.
“This tragic event has caused not only the unnecessary loss of lives but also a profound emotional pain for the families left behind as well as the survivors, and witnesses,” DSWD said.
The assistance aims to help survivors, families, and other affected individuals cope with trauma, grief, and distress following the shooting.
DSWD expressed concern over the impact of the incident on children and minors, saying that schools should be safe and nurturing environments where children’s rights and welfare are protected.
“The DSWD stands in solidarity with the families and the community of Zamboanga City and remains committed to providing the care, protection, and support they need to recover and move forward,” the agency said.
