Davao City boosts school security after Zamboanga shooting

DAVAO CITY – Davao City has strengthened security measures in schools following a shooting incident at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City on Tuesday, August 18.
Harvey Lanticse, head of the City Information Office, said in a statement that the city government expressed its prayers and sympathy to the victims and their families.
The city government assured the public that security measures remain in place in Davao City schools, with additional security personnel being deployed in and around learning facilities.
Lanticse said the city continues to coordinate with the Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education to ensure students' safety and welfare.
He said Mayor Sebastian Duterte directed the Security Cluster, through the Public Safety and Security Office, to deploy more security personnel in and around the schools here.
"These enhanced security measures will remain in place moving forward," Lanticse said, while appealing for the cooperation of the public in maintaining security in the city.
Davao City Police Office Director Police Colonel Peter Madria checked on the Mobile Patrol Unit in Bangkal, near the Ateneo de Davao University Senior High School and its Ecoland station.
The inspection also covered the Ateneo de Davao University Elementary and High School departments along McArthur Highway, fronting Matina Town Square.
Madria reminded police personnel to respond quickly to incidents, immediately implement lockdown protocols when needed, and coordinate with other security units.
Madria and Police Lt. Colonel Daisy Torres, commander of the First City Mobile Force Company, also coordinated with school security personnel to strengthen safety measures for schools.
"The proactive measures form part of the DCPO's continuing efforts to protect educational institutions and the wider community," Madria said.
