BINI member Mikha Lim has voiced concerns over the proposed Pax Silica industrial hub in the Philippines, questioning whether its potential economic benefits from artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technology would outweigh possible environmental and social costs.
During a Weverse live, Mikha raised concerns about the project’s potential impact on the country’s mineral resources, water supply, cost of living, and agricultural communities.
The Philippines joined the US-led Pax Silica initiative in April 2026, with plans for a 4,000-acre industrial hub within the Luzon Economic Corridor. The project aims to strengthen supply chains for AI, semiconductors, and critical minerals, with government officials projecting billions of dollars in investments and more than 130,000 jobs.
Mikha, however, questioned whether the promised economic gains would translate into meaningful improvements for Filipinos.
She also expressed concern over the project’s water requirements and environmental impact, pointing to the large amount of land and clean water that data centers could require.
Water use has been among the concerns surrounding Pax Silica, although government agencies have maintained that the development will not compromise the water supply of nearby communities and will be subject to environmental safeguards.
Mikha also urged Filipinos to support farmers, emphasizing their importance to the country. “Support the farmers, guys. Jusko! We would not survive without them,” she said.
She encouraged young Filipinos to use their platforms to speak about issues that could affect the country’s future. “So please, let’s use our voices to talk about what matters and what’s happening,” Mikha said.
As of writing, the other members of BINI have not publicly commented on Pax Silica or Mikha’s remarks. It remains unclear whether they share her views on the proposed development.
