Police arrested a woman allegedly involved in the theft of copper cables after responding to a report of suspicious smoke and a foul odor in Quezon City late Saturday night, Aug. 15.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Project 6 Police Station personnel responded to Mindanao Avenue in Barangay Bahay Toro, Project 8, at around 10:35 p.m. after residents reported suspicious smoke and a foul odor.
As police approached the area, the 46-year-old woman allegedly shouted a warning to her male accomplice, who was burning the stolen copper wires.
The male suspect fled while police took the woman into custody.
Police recovered a 50-meter copper cable and 50 pieces of pre-cut copper wires, each measuring about 25 meters, with an estimated total value of P52,618.38.
Police said the woman had previously been arrested for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
She is facing a complaint for theft under Article 308 in relation to Article 18 of the Revised Penal Code.
QCPD investigators are conducting follow-up operations to identify, locate, and arrest the fleeing male suspect.
