'Mag-iina,' 'Tayo Lang Ang Nakakaalam' lead Cinemalaya 22 winners

Mag-iina” and “Tayo Lang Ang Nakakaalam” emerged among the biggest winners of the 22nd Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, with both films earning multiple honors across the major competition categories.
“Mag-iina” took the festival’s top full-length prize, winning Best Film, while director Giancarlo Abrahan was named Best Director. The film also earned Best Screenplay and Best Original Music Score, with David Yuchico receiving the latter award.
The film’s awards haul was further strengthened by Lucas Andalio’s recognition as Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role, which he shared in a tie with KD Omalin of “Hand of God.”
“Tayo Lang Ang Nakakaalam” likewise had a strong showing, taking home Best Sound, Best Cinematography and Best Ensemble Performance. The ensemble award recognized Martin del Rosario, Miguel Odron, Yayo Aguila and Epy Quizon.
Del Rosario also won Best Performance by an Actor in a Lead Role for his performance in “Tayo Lang Ang Nakakaalam,” giving the film another major acting honor.
In the lead actress category, the festival resulted in another tie, with Marrieta Subong of “2 Valid IDs” and Ruby Ruiz of “Status: Rejected” both receiving the Best Performance by an Actress in a Lead Role award.
“2 Valid IDs” also secured the Audience Choice Award for Full-Length Film and the Special Jury Prize – Full-Length, adding to its recognition at the festival.
In the short-film competition, “Silkscreen” was named Best Film, while Gabriela Serrano won Best Direction for “Elenita_Elena_Elaine_.” “Runo” received Best Screenplay, while “Para-Paraan” was awarded the Special Jury Prize.
The audience favorite among the short films was “Hoy, Hoy Ingat!,” which won the Audience Choice Award – Short Film.
Other major honors included Best Production Design for “a.ni.mal,” with Bituin Escalante winning Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for the same film.
The NETPAC Award for the short-film category went to “The River Flows in Different Places,” while “Status: Rejected” received the corresponding full-length award.
The complete list of winners reflects the diversity of this year’s Cinemalaya competition, with several films sharing the spotlight across acting, technical, writing, directing and jury categories.
