- Kris Aquino is back in the spotlight through Netflix Philippines, and fans quickly noticed her trademark "kaartehan." The Queen of All Media, however, says she has toned down her "maarte" personality by at least 30%.
Fans have been enjoying seeing Kris Aquino back in the spotlight through Netflix Philippines’ three-part promotional campaign, with many welcoming the return of the familiar wit, humor and larger-than-life personality that made the Queen of All Media a household name.
But while fans were happy to see the old Kris again, some couldn’t help but notice that her famously “maarte” side appeared to have come along for the comeback.
One netizen summed it up in a comment: “lol. gotta love her trademark kris kaartehan that only she can pull off.”
Somehow, Kris got wind of the reaction and was quick to retort.
According to her, what viewers are seeing now is actually a toned-down version of herself.
“Will you believe me if I say I am no longer as ‘maarte’ kaya lang for the material to work I need to go back to how I was?” Kris replied.
She even estimated that she has toned it down by around 30 percent.
“I would love to do a reality show para makita at marinig nyo how much I have tone down, in my opinion by at least 30%,” she said.
Then came the part that only Kris could probably deliver with a straight face: “For most maarte pa rin, for me pang school library na.”
So there you have it. What may still look like peak Kris kaartehan to everyone else is apparently her more restrained, school-library version.
When another netizen brought up her old love for jewelry and said they missed her vlogs, Kris revealed that she has moved on from some of those familiar interests.
“My left earlobe closed. I haven’t been wearing earrings in so long. I have grown up a lot since then, but my new collection is personalized stationery, note cards, and 1.0 gel pens,” she said.
Writing has become particularly important to her, too.
That may also explain why the Netflix videos feel so recognizably Kris.
