BANGUED, Abra — Ten road sections across the Cordillera remained impassable while four villages in Abra stayed isolated following days of heavy rains that triggered landslides and other incidents in the region, police said Monday.
The latest monitoring report of the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-CAR) showed that five of the 10 impassable road sections were in Benguet, three in Abra, one in Kalinga, and one in Mountain Province.
In Benguet, Kennon Road remained totally closed due to landslides and rockslides in portions of Tuba.
The Gov. Bado Dangwa National Road in Bangho, Daclan, Tublay, also remained closed after a soil collapse damaged slope protection and brought down portions of the curtain net. Clearing operations were ongoing.
The Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road in Beckel remained impassable due to a road slip, with the Marlboro Hills road serving as an alternate route.
Also closed were the national road in Goldfield, Poblacion, Itogon, due to a mudslide, and a section of the Amburayan-Boneng Road, where part of the provincial road was washed out.
In Abra, Barangays Bacag, Buneg, Guinguinabang, and Lan-ag, all in Lacub remained isolated.
The three impassable road sections in the province were the Bacabak Spillway route to San Emilio, Gubing Road in Licuan-Baay, and the Dominglay-Sucao Road.
Authorities continued to discourage motorists from crossing the Bacabak Spillway, while the temporary crossing at Gubing Creek was washed out.
The Dominglay-Sucao Road was also affected by elevated water in the Malanas River and a reported landslide.
In Kalinga, the Tabuk-Banaue Road via Tanudan-Barlig remained impassable due to a soil collapse.
Meanwhile, the Junction Talubin-Barlig-Calaccad Road in Mountain Province was placed under an open-close traffic scheme due to an unstable slope at Sitio Pingew in Barangay Talubin, Bontoc.
Four evacuation centers in Baguio City continued to shelter 25 families, or 94 individuals.
PRO-CAR reported that 156 houses and one school had been damaged. No areas were reported to be without electricity in the latest monitoring.
A total of 92 relief operations had served 7,391 families, or 14,222 individuals, police said.
The regional death toll remained at 15, with 14 people injured and none reported missing. All 15 fatalities were previously linked to landslides in Baguio City and Benguet.
Six search, rescue, and retrieval operations have been conducted, resulting in the rescue of 14 people and in the recovery of 15 bodies.
Classes remained suspended in some areas as authorities continued to monitor the effects of the southwest monsoon.
Authorities urged motorists and residents to remain cautious, warning that clearing skies or partially cleared roads do not necessarily mean that slopes and other affected areas are already safe.
