Fish released into Burnham Lake as part of rehab efforts

BAGUIO CITY – Fish stocking has begun at the rehabilitated Burnham Lake as part of efforts to improve not only the area but also the recreational activities it can provide to residents and visitors.

The first fish stocking was conducted by fishing enthusiasts Rafael Serrano and Michael Rosero after Mayor Benjamin Magalong and the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO), under Atty. Rhenan Diwas, approved the experiment.
Five tilapia fingerlings were placed in the lake to determine whether the fish could survive under its current conditions. The fish will be monitored for three days.
If the trial is successful, about 1,000 fish will be introduced into the lake. The fish are expected to be ready for fishing within three months.
The initiative is also preparing for a planned fishing tournament in the lake in December.
Rosero said he is willing to provide tilapia for the trial phase if the newly rehabilitated lake proves viable.
Serrano is behind a series of fishing tournaments held at the lake in partnership with the city government.
The activity is part of an ongoing effort to rehabilitate and improve Burnham Park Lake for the public, with the park set to open on September 1.
