Baguio distributes P3.1-M assistance during calamity

BAGUIO CITY – The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) here reported that an initial P3.1 million worth of assistance were given to disaster victims in the city following the devastation caused by Typhoon Maymay and the strengthened southwest monsoon that brought heavy rains the past two weeks.
According to CSWD Officer Liza Bulayungan, the assistance consisted of food, non-food, and cash assistance from the local government, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and donations from individuals and organizations.
The assistance from the local government included food packs, hygiene kits, emergency shelter assistance, and financial assistance.
The DSWD-CAR also delivered assistance consisting of food packs, hygiene kits, family kits, kitchen kits, sleeping kits, and financial assistance.
Bulayungan said there were also about P2.1 million worth of donations from individuals and civic-minded groups, consisting of food, non-food items, and cash, given to the affected victims.
Based on the data, there was a total of 243 families, consisting of 1,112 individuals, which were affected by the weather disturbances that hit the city in the past two weeks.
Of these, 125 families or 530 people had to leave their homes.
For the population of those displaced, there were 33 families consisting of 132 individuals who were inside evacuation centers at the time of reporting.
Bulayungan said there were about 47 houses reported to have been damaged by the weather changes, of which 41 structures were partially damaged and six houses were completely destroyed.
