Abalos denounces Norwegian AI data center proponent for walking out Iloilo public hearing

ILOILO CITY—Cabinet Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. lashed at the Norwegian AI data center proponent Daniel Stefan Robertsen for walking out of a public hearing and cussing reporters in Iloilo.

“His behavior is deplorable,” Abalos said in a statement.

A visibly irked Robertsen walked out of an August 14 public consultation in Oton town, where his company Norway Green Energy wants to build a 50-megawatt (MW) hyperscale AI data center at a largely agricultural area.

Robertsen then harassed reporters who tried to interview him, and blurted out: “If you don't have a brain, just f*ck ... Go away!”

“Hindi mo dapat murahin o bastusin ang mga Pilipino, lalo na sa sarili naming bansa (You should not curse at or disrespect Filipinos, especially in our own country),” Abalos emphasized.

The Norwegian also threatened to take to the reporters to court for allegedly violating his privacy by taking photos and videos during the public consultation.

The proposed 10-hectare AI data center with proposed site in Barangay Abilay Sur drew controversy when the public only knew of the August 14 public consultation a day prior on August 13.
