DILG places Luisiana, Laguna mayor under 90-day preventive suspension

LUISIANA, Laguna- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has served a 90-day preventive suspension order on Luisiana Mayor Jomapher Uy Alvarez in connection with the case filed against him for violating Section 3(f) of Republic Act 3019, or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.

Following a Regional Trial Court's order, Alvarez is temporarily unable to perform his duties as mayor while the hearing on the case is ongoing.

Concurrently, the court denied the Motion to Quash filed by Alvarez's camp.

The court clarified that the preventive suspension is merely part of the standard judicial process and does not imply that Alvarez has been finally convicted.

Vice Mayor Jonieces Acaylar was sworn in as acting municipal mayor on Wednesday, August 12, by presiding judge Shari-Christine SJ Almario.

According to Acaylar, the case stemmed from the alleged non-payment of terminal leave benefits to former Luisiana Mayor Nestor Rondilla, who filed the complaint against Alvarez.

The newly installed acting mayor assured the public that all programs and public services in the town of Luisiana would continue while the three-month suspension order against Alvarez remains in effect.
