Actor Derek Ramsay’s name has surfaced in a Land Transportation Office (LTO) investigation involving a supercar allegedly using an unauthorized license plate.
The LTO issued a show cause order against the vehicle’s registered owner and designated driver after verification showed that the alphanumeric combination on the plate being used did not match the vehicle’s officially assigned motor vehicle license plate number.
According to the LTO, the vehicle is registered under Ramsay’s name, although the agency said it had already been sold to another person.
The LTO did not identify the businessman who reportedly acquired the supercar.
The agency said that while Ramsay is no longer the person using the vehicle, it remains registered under his name.
The registered owner and designated driver were ordered to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) and submit a verified or sworn explanation regarding the alleged violation involving the use of the number plate.
The designated driver was also directed to explain why his driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked on the ground that he may be considered an “improper person to operate a motor vehicle.”
Meanwhile, the driver’s license was placed under a 90-day preventive suspension, with the driver ordered to surrender it to the IID.
The supercar was also placed under alarm status, while the LTO’s Law Enforcement Service (LES) was directed to impound the vehicle.
“Walang VIP sa pagpapatupad ng batas. Kahit sino pa ang sangkot, kapag napatunayang lumabag, haharap sa kaukulang pananagutan,” LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said.
“Walang palakasan, walang palusot, at walang exemption. Ang paggamit ng pekeng plaka at pag-iwas sa mga obligasyong dapat tuparin ay hindi pinapalampas ng LTO,” he added.
