The Valenzuela City government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have started addressing the damaged portions of Maysan Road, with P81 million earmarked for the first phase of its rehabilitation.

Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian and DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon inspected the road on Thursday, Aug. 13, to assess the extent of the damage and identify sections requiring immediate intervention.

Workers also carried out temporary road repairs and pothole-filling operations during the inspection.

The city government said several portions of Maysan Road have deteriorated over time due to recurring typhoons, heavy rains, flooding, and the frequent passage of heavy trucks.

Dizon said the recent continuous rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, further damaged the road.

The DPWH said the first phase of rehabilitation, funded with P81 million, is expected to be completed within six months.

The local government and the DPWH are also discussing the possible extension of truck ban hours to give workers more time to carry out repair works.

It added that the temporary repairs will continue while preparations are underway for the full rehabilitation of the road.
