A delivery van loaded with soft drinks tipped over while turning at the EDSA-Aurora Boulevard intersection in Cubao, Quezon City, Thursday morning, Aug. 13.
The van’s driver, “Jemar,” said it suddenly tilted as he was turning at the intersection while they were on their way to Manila from Bagumbayan, Quezon City.
Jemar and his helper were the only two people in the van, and neither was reported injured.
The van occupied one lane of EDSA northbound leading to the westbound lane, but motorists could still pass through the area.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) enforcers responded to the scene and managed traffic while trying to upright the van.
They failed to immediately move the vehicle because of its heavy load of soft drinks, prompting them to remove the bottles by hand to lighten its load.
Some MMDA personnel said the bottles may not have been properly secured or tightly packed, causing the weight to shift to one side as the van turned from EDSA northbound toward the westbound lane.
The van also hit several concrete barriers during the incident, according to authorities.
As of 12:30 p.m., authorities had cleared the EDSA-Cubao intersection, and police said the van would be brought to QCPD Traffic Sector 4 for investigation.
