Over 6,500 families get aid as Calumpit battles floods

More than 6,500 families in Calumpit, Bulacan received relief goods from the provincial government on Wednesday, August 12, as floodwaters continued to swamp the town.

Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, Vice Gov. Alex Castro, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) head Rowena J. Tiongson, and First District Board Member Mina Fermin led the distribution, joined by Mayor Lem Faustino, Vice Mayor Zacarias Candelaria, and members of the Sangguniang Bayan.
Residents from the hardest-hit barangays Gatbuca, San Miguel, and Meysulao were among those given food packs and supplies.
Police personnel under Bulacan Provincial Police Director Col. Jay Baybayin and Calumpit police chief Lt. Col. Leopold Estorque helped secure the operation, alongside disaster response officers from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).
Flooding has affected 29 barangays, displacing 154,961 individuals from 46,498 families.
Nineteen evacuation centers are sheltering 845 families, while several roads remain impassable, with others only accessible to large vehicles, according to the Calumpit MDRRMO.
