New dialysis center to rise at Pedro Gil in Manila

A new hemodialysis center will be built at the Pedro Gil Residences in Manila, with city officials breaking ground for the facility on Thursday, Aug. 13, as the city moves to expand access to dialysis services for residents.

Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso led the groundbreaking ceremony for the facility, which will be located within the city’s housing development along Pedro Gil.

The project is intended to provide another site for residents requiring regular dialysis treatment, potentially reducing the need for patients to travel to other facilities for their sessions.

The groundbreaking was held as Manila continued dealing with the effects of nearly a week of heavy rain brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon.

Domagoso said the city’s health services must remain operational alongside its emergency response efforts during periods of prolonged bad weather.

The city had earlier prepared 165,000 doxycycline capsules for residents who may have been exposed to floodwaters, as part of its measures against leptospirosis.

The new dialysis facility adds to the city government’s health-related projects as it continues to provide medical services to Manila residents.

The city did not immediately provide details on the center’s capacity, number of dialysis machines, project cost or target opening date.
