Mikee Romero acknowledges 'greater responsibility' after CA confirmation

With high rank comes great responsibility.
Philippine Air Force (PAF) Reserve Brig. Gen. Michael Odylon “Mikee” Romero seemingly tore a page from Spider-Man's book as he reflected on his confirmation Thursday, Aug. 13 by the Commission on Appointments (CA).
“The rank is not simply a recognition; it carries greater responsibility," Romero said in a line that was reminiscent of one made famous by the super-hero.
"As a reservist, it is my duty to use my experience and capabilities to help build an AFP that is more prepared, more modern and more resilient—in times of war, disasters and every challenge our country may face,” said Romero, a former House deputy speaker and three-term 1-Pacman Party-list congressman.
His involvement in national defense has continued through his leadership of the Association of Reservists and Reservist Administrators of the Philippines, Inc. (ARRAPI), where he has pushed for a stronger, more capable and better-prepared reserve force.
The bicameral CA on Thursday confirmed the ad interim appointments and promotions of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Antonio Nafarrete, Romero, and 36 other senior and flag officers.
Nafarrete, who assumed command as the 61st AFP Chief of Staff on July 21, was confirmed to the four-star rank of general.
Two other ARRAPI leaders were also among those whose appointments and promotions were confirmed. These are Col. Vladimir Mata of the Philippine Marine Corps Reserve, the association’s president; and Col. Floreto Solano of the Philippine Air Force Reserve, its treasurer.
Their confirmation, along with Romero’s elevation, underscored the growing participation of reserve-force leaders in strengthening the AFP’s reserve component and its readiness for national defense, disaster response and humanitarian assistance.
Nafarrete brings more than three decades of military experience to the AFP’s top post. A member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990, he previously served as commanding general of the Philippine Army and held various operational and command positions.
He succeeded General Romeo Brawner Jr. as AFP chief on July 21.
