The 24-member Legit Status Varsity is set to represent the Philippines at the 2026 UDO World Street Dance Championships in Blackpool, United Kingdom, adding another exciting international chapter to the Filipino dance community’s growing list of achievements. From Aug. 12–16, Blackpool’s iconic Winter Gardens will bring together thousands of dancers from around the world, with the Philippines proudly taking its place on the world stage.
The team earned its spot in the Under 18 Team Division after securing first and second place at the UDO Philippines Street Dance Championship in Quezon City from Nov. 21–23, 2025. Following their standout performance, UDO Philippines officially confirmed Legit Status Varsity as a Philippine qualifier and representative for the 2026 UDO World Street Dance Championships in an invitation dated February 6.
These young dancers come together from different backgrounds and cities, united by one passion and one goal: to put the Philippines on the global dance map. With each competition, Legit Status continues to make its mark on the international competitive dance scene, building a reputation as the Philippine powerhouse in hip-hop dance.
Founded in 2009 under artistic director Vimi Rivera, Legit Status has steadily built a reputation both locally and internationally. Among its biggest breakthroughs came at the 2023 and 2025 World Hip Hop Dance Championships in Phoenix, Arizona, where Legit Status emerged as world champion in the MegaCrew Division.
The group’s younger dancers have continued to make their own mark, with Legit Status Varsity earning bronze in the JV MegaCrew Division at the 2025 World Hip Hop Dance Championship.
The Varsity team is carrying that momentum into 2026, winning World Champion in the Under 16 category and 1st Runner Up in the Over 18 MegaCrew division in Manchester’s SOAR competition.
It is against this backdrop of growing international success that Legit Status Varsity now takes on Blackpool, ready to represent the Philippines on the world stage.
Their participation points to something larger happening within Philippine dance: a new generation of performers is entering a competitive scene where Filipino crews have already proven that they can not only qualify for major international competitions, but win them.
Legit Status’ success has also earned recognition beyond the dance floor. Following the team’s 2025 World Hip Hop Dance Championship victory, the Philippine Senate formally recognized Legit Status, commending the dancers for bringing pride and international recognition to the country.
Now the next generation gets its turn.
When Legit Status Varsity takes the floor in Blackpool this August, its 24 young dancers will be competing for a world title of their own — and adding another chapter to a Philippine street dance story that is becoming increasingly difficult for the rest of the world to overlook.
Continue to cheer Legit Status Varsity on. As long as the fire burns, the story will always go on. Because when you’re too legit to quit, the only victory you need to overcome is your own.
