'Habagat' rains to persist over parts of the Philippines

The southwest monsoon or “habagat” will continue to bring rains over Luzon and parts of Western Visayas on Thursday, Aug. 13, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
PAGASA weather specialist Leanne Loreto warned that the monsoon rains could trigger flooding and landslides, particularly in areas that have received significant rainfall in the past few days.
Occasional moderate to heavy rains may persist in Zambales and Bataan.
Meanwhile, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may prevail over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, the rest of Central Luzon, Camarines Norte, Aklan, Antique, and Capiz.
The rest of the country will generally have fair weather, although isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may still occur in the afternoon or evening.
Loreto also said that Tropical Storm Nangka, which is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, is moving away from the country and is not expected to affect the weather.
Nangka was located 2,560 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon as of Thursday and was moving northeastward at 20 kilometers per hour.
