Gunil, the leader and drummer of K-rock band Xdinary Heroes, has left the group following allegations made by a woman who identified herself as his girlfriend.
According to Korean media reports, the woman claimed online that Gunil had been making derogatory comments about fans in private.
“Gunil curses at fans to me every day, and his behavior in real life is different from what he shows on TV. He calls me after concerts and curses like, ‘I want to beat them all up,’ ‘They’re disgusting,’” she reportedly said.
She added that she had felt uncomfortable discussing the matter publicly but found it increasingly difficult to watch Gunil on television. She also released a recording of a phone conversation that she claimed was with Gunil, in which he allegedly made insulting remarks about fans.
On Aug. 13, JYP Entertainment announced that Gunil’s exclusive contract had been terminated and that he was no longer a member of Xdinary Heroes.
“Regarding the recent matter concerning member Gunil, we deeply recognized the gravity of the situation and engaged in sufficient discussions with the artist from various angles. As a result, we determined that it is no longer possible to continue team activities together, and we have decided to terminate his exclusive contract by mutual agreement,” the agency said.
“Accordingly, we would like to inform you that Gunil is withdrawing from Xdinary Heroes as of today and has concluded his activities with the group,” it added.
Xdinary Heroes, which debuted in December 2021, will continue as a five-member group.
