CHED allocates ₱56.66 million for medical technology, pharmacy student scholarships

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has allocated ₱56.66 million from the Higher Education Development Fund (HEDF) to sustain scholarships for students pursuing medical technology and pharmacy.
The funding will cover the financial requirements of existing scholars under the Scholarship Program for Future Medical Technologists and Pharmacists (MTP-SP), allowing them to continue their studies through Academic Year 2026-2027.
CHED said the program covers 238 ongoing scholars for the second semester of AY 2025-2026 and 300 scholars for the first semester of AY 2026-2027.
The Commission said it maximized available program funds to prioritize 71 ongoing scholars from the poorest households and those belonging to the special equity group.
The remaining financial requirements totaling ₱56,663,250 will be covered by the HEDF.
The use of the HEDF is consistent with the 2026 General Appropriations Act, which directs CHED to consider the full requirements of existing scholars when programming the fund to ensure continuity of their financial support.
CHED Chairperson Shirley C. Agrupis said the Commission remains committed to helping current scholars complete their degrees while preparing more medical technologists and pharmacists to meet the country's healthcare needs.
For AY 2025-2026, 13 MTP-SP scholars are expected to graduate, including four Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science students and nine Pharmacy students.
After passing their respective licensure examinations, the graduates will be required to render one year of government service for every year they received the scholarship, in accordance with Department of Health guidelines.
The return-service requirement is intended to help augment the supply of licensed medical technologists and pharmacists in the public health sector.
The MTP-SP provides financial assistance to qualified Filipino students pursuing Bachelor of Science degrees in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science and Pharmacy at participating higher education institutions.
