CA OKs appointments of Nafarrete, 37 other AFP generals

The Commission on Appointments (CA) on Thursday, August 13 confirmed the appointment of Gen. Antonio Nafarrete as chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The CA approved Nafarrete’s appointment along with 37 other generals, senior officers and flag officers of the AFP.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. appointed Nafarrete as AFP chief of staff in July, 2026.

Prior to the CA’s plenary session, the CA’s Committee on National Defense deliberated on and recommended the approval of the appointments and nomination of Nafarrete and the other AFP generals.

No member of the powerful appointments body objected when the CA confirmed the interim appointments of Nafarrete, the nomination of another military officer, and the 36 other officers.

The list of officers who secured the CA’s approval are as follows:

1.        Antonio G. Nafarrete to general, chief of staff of AFP

2.        Thad Rufino P. Candelario to lieutenant general

3.        Phillip G. Alvarez Jr. to brigadier general

4.        Edwin B. Princillo to commodore

5.        Moises L. Micor to major general

6.        Elmer G. Toriado to commodore

7.        Emilio G. Oria Jr. to rear admiral

8.        Michael Odylon L. Romero to brigadier general (reserve)

9.        Gilberto T. Esteban Jr. to brigadier general

10.  Frederick A. Ancheta to brigadier general

11.  Rolando V. Noto to colonel, Philippine Army (reserve)

12.  Monotano B. Almodovar to brigadier general

13.  Vladimir T. Mata to colonel, Philippine Navy-Marine Corps (reserve)

14.  Donald G. Romquillo to captain, Philippine Navy (reserve)

15.  Divina Grace C. Yu to colonel, Philippine Army (reserve)

16.  Floreto I. Solano to colonel, Philippine Air Force (reserve)
