NEW YORK (AP) — Parents of toddlers may soon have a new soundtrack for their living rooms.

YouTube star and music educator Ms. Rachel, whose real name is Rachel Griffin Accurso, and her husband, Aron Accurso, are releasing their first album together, “I’m So Happy,” on Sept. 25.

The 23-track album brings music from their popular children’s show beyond the screen, with new arrangements of familiar songs alongside original material.

“Music is such a wonderful way for people to bond, for parents to bond,” Ms. Rachel said.

Ms. Rachel started her popular YouTube channel with Aron in 2019. As a music educator, she said she is particularly excited about introducing children to different instruments and sounds.

The album features a wide range of musical styles. “I Love a Rainbow,” for example, has a bossa nova feel, while their version of “Old MacDonald” takes a bluegrass approach.

Aron said the goal was to give families a way to enjoy the music without having to watch the show.

“Music is at the heart of our show,” he said. “And so, we’ve always wanted to release the music and have families experience the music away from the screen.”

Bringing new life to familiar songs

“I’m So Happy” was co-produced by Aron and Grammy winner Scott Riesett. Aron also handled most of the arrangements.

The project brought together 19 vocalists and 42 instrumentalists as they reworked some of Ms. Rachel’s most popular songs and childhood favorites.

Aron said they wanted to take songs that children already know and give them something new to discover.

The couple also hopes the album will become part of family time at home.

“We love to put on an album and dance around,” Aron said.

Music and advocacy

Ms. Rachel has also become known for speaking publicly about issues affecting children around the world.

In recent years, she has used her social media platforms to raise awareness about humanitarian crises, including the situation of children in Gaza and children detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

She has also spoken about the death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells in Mississippi, calling for justice for his family.

Ms. Rachel said she sees her advocacy and work for children as closely connected.

“I view myself as an advocate for children’s rights so anytime they’re being violated by anyone anywhere, I want to be speaking out,” she said.

For now, however, Ms. Rachel and Aron are giving families something lighter to look forward to—a full album designed for children to sing, move and dance along to.
