Robbery suspect shot as gun goes off in scuffle with Muntinlupa cops

A robbery suspect was wounded when his own gun went off during a struggle with police in Muntinlupa City on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
The suspect, known only as alias Eduardo, is under guard while receiving treatment at the Ospital ng Muntinlupa.
He was arrested on East Service Road in Barangay Sucat after police responded to a 911 report of a robbery near a gas station.
An 18-year-old student flagged down officers, saying the suspect had robbed her at gunpoint inside a jeepney, taking her phone and wallet before fleeing toward a footbridge.
Police chased and caught up with the suspect, who drew a .45-caliber pistol and pointed it at them.
In the ensuing scuffle, the firearm discharged, hitting him in the neck. Barangay Sucat’s medical team rushed him to the hospital.
Recovered from the suspect were the pistol with three live rounds, the victim’s P37,000 phone, her wallet with IDs, and a sling bag.
Southern Police District director Brig. Gen. Glenn Oliver Cinco commended Muntinlupa police for their swift response to the emergency call.
