Iloilo to build high school-based techno hub

ILOILO CITY—The Provincial Government of Iloilo will build a high school-based techno hub in the town of Cabatuan.

This was after Governor Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. led the August 10 groundbreaking of the MoRProGRes TechnoHub at Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School (CNCHS).

Provincial officials peg it as the country’s first techno hub that is located within public high school premises.

This P15-million state-of-the-art facility is part of the Defensor administration’s priority in strengthening technical-vocational (tech-voc) education that will particularly focus on tech-based skills.

Once finished, the MoRProGRes TechnoHub will offer short-courses on artificial intelligence (AI), drone technology, 3D printing, and information and communications technology (ICT).

During the groundbreaking ceremony, student Edmerl Christ Tiongson also showed the school’s entry to the championship round of the World Robot Contest 2026 in Malaysia.

“We want our educational system to produce the human resource that we need,” said Defensor.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Education (DepEd), and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) expressed support to the project.

Also present were Vice Governor Lee Ann Debuque, Cabatuan Mayor Elizalde Pueyo, DOST Regional Director Rowen Gelonga, DepEd Assistant Regional Director Dr. Miguel Mac Aposin, TESDA Acting Regional Director Esther Babalo, TESDA Iloilo Provincial Director Florencio F. Sunico Jr., DepEd-Iloilo OIC Dr. Ruby Therese Almencion, and CNCHS School Principal Valente Lauro.
