Cavite under state of calamity due to effects of 'Luis,' 'Maymay'

Cavite has been placed under a state of calamity after heavy rains from the southwest monsoon, intensified by tropical cyclones “Luis” and “Maymay,” caused widespread damage.
The Provincial Board approved Resolution No. 5059-2026 during its regular session on Aug. 10.

The resolution authorized Gov. Francisco Gabriel “Abeng” D. Remulla to use P10 million from the Quick Response Fund of the 2026 Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund to respond to the calamity.
Based on situation reports received by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), 20 local government units (LGUs) were affected by heavy rains and flooding, involving 10,469 families or 34,952 individuals.

Authorities also recorded 97 incidents, including flooding, toppled or fallen trees, landslides or soil erosion, collapsed structures, fires, and vehicular accidents.
The initial damage to agriculture, meanwhile, was estimated at P4.23 million.

In a Facebook post, Remulla said the provincial government continues to monitor situations in various LGUs and provide assistance to residents who need it.
He also urged his constituents to remain alert, keep abreast of official advisories, and prioritize their families’ safety.
