Man in fake MTPB uniform arrested in Tondo

A man in a Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) uniform was arrested after allegedly flagging down motorcycles and trucks without showing identification, police said.

Marc Arquero, 39, was nabbed at about 6:20 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the corner of Road 10 and Jacinto Street in Barangay 100, Tondo.

Police said MTPB traffic enforcers were performing their duties along Mel Lopez Boulevard when they spotted Arquero standing by the roadside, wearing an MTPB polo shirt and stopping motorists.

The enforcers approached Arquero and identified themselves as MTPB personnel assigned to the area.

When they asked him to present identification, he allegedly failed to provide any.

This prompted the officers to arrest him and recover the MTPB upper garment he was wearing.

The garment was later marked as evidence.

The arresting officers -- MTPB enforcers Kenneth Naval, Oscar De Leon, and Marvin Manuel, along with police personnel from the Smokey Mountain Police Community Precinct -- brought Arquero and the recovered uniform to the station at about 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, for investigation.

Arquero, who was listed as unemployed and a resident of Tondo, remains under police custody.

Authorities are preparing the necessary documents to file complaints with the Manila Prosecutor’s Office for violations of Article 177 (Usurpation of Authority and Official Functions) and Article 179 (Illegal Use of Uniform or Insignia)of the Revised Penal Code).
