Man held for possession of 'pen gun' in Baseco

A 33-year-old man was arrested after police found him examining an improvised firearm resembling a pen gun in an alley in Baseco, Port Area, Manila, on Monday evening, August 10.

Police identified the suspect as Faiz Solaiman, also known as “Jack,” a resident of Barangay 650.

According to the Baseco Police Station, police officers were conducting an anti-criminality operation along an alley on 12th Street at around 6 p.m. when they saw Solaiman seated by the roadside and examining what appeared to be a firearm.

The officers approached him and ordered him to put down the weapon, which was later identified as an improvised firearm or “pen gun,” police said.

They also asked Solaiman to present documents authorizing him to possess and carry a firearm, but he failed to comply.

The officers arrested Solaiman and brought him to the police station at around 6:30 p.m.

Police recovered one improvised firearm and one live 9mm ammunition from the scene.

Solaiman was informed of the nature of the offense and his constitutional rights in a language he understood but opted to remain silent, according to police.

He remained under police custody as authorities prepared a complaint for alleged violation ofRepublic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, before the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation and preparation of the case were ongoing as of the latest police report.
