Hyundai E&C and World Vision hand over safe drinking water and WASH facilities to schools in Apalit, Pampanga

APALIT, PAMPANGA, PHILIPPINES (July 30, 2026) – Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) and World Vision officially handed over newly constructed Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities to San Vicente Elementary School and Sampaga Elementary School in Apalit, Pampanga.
Located in the lower Pampanga River basin, Apalit regularly faces severe flooding, which frequently contaminates local water sources and exposes children to waterborne diseases. Prior to the project, students at both schools lacked access to safe drinking water on campus and had to rely on purchased water.
Funded by Hyundai E&C employees and supported by the Community Chest of Korea (CCK), the newly established WASH system incorporates a water purification filtration system and elevated foundation structures designed to prevent water contamination during seasonal flooding. The project directly improves the health and learning environment for over 3,100 students and provides clean water access to approximately 15,000 residents in the surrounding community.
The official turnover ceremony held at San Vicente Elementary School was attended by key dignitaries, including Hon. Oscar D. Tetangco Jr., Municipal Mayor of Apalit; Park Jong Cheul, Project Manager of Hyundai E&C; Roberto V. Dazo, Operations Manager for Luzon of World Vision Philippines; Engr. Wilfredo J. Danting, Punong Barangay of Barangay San Vicente; along with over 500 community members and students.
"This project is a vital contribution to our municipality, where recurring natural hazards have long threatened our children's health and access to clean water," said Hon. Oscar D. Tetangco Jr., Mayor of Apalit. "We express our deepest gratitude to Hyundai E&C and World Vision, and the local government will ensure continuous collaboration for the maintenance of these facilities."
"Access to safe water is a fundamental right that serves as the foundation for children's health and education," stated Roberto Dazo, World Vision Philippines Operations Manager for Luzon. "Beyond infrastructure construction, World Vision remains committed to building local capacity through hygiene education and community-led water management committees to ensure long-term sustainability."
Following the turnover, World Vision and Hyundai E&C will continue conducting hygiene education and facility management training for teachers, students, and community members to establish a self-sustaining management system.
