ZAMBOANGA CITY- Workers of a shipping company whose operations were suspended after a boat sinking incident were tapped by the national government in Zamboanga City’s fight against the dengue epidemic.
The Department of Labor and Employment regional office here has provided temporary employment to displaced Aleson Shipping workers through its "Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/ Displaced Workers "program.
The program benefits 176 workers by providing them with temporary employment for 20 days.
The program provides a two-fold benefit: to provide temporary livelihood while mobilizing the workers for community clean up and dengue prevention.
The workers were assigned to clean clogged drainage canals, clear materials that hold rainwater and clean areas to prevent them from becoming breeding places for mosquitos.
