Diokno's simple logic destroys anti-impeachment trial trolls

House prosecutor Akbayan Party-list Rep. Chel Diokno destroyed anti-impeachment trial trolls with a single Facebook post Tuesday, Aug. 11 on the topic of acknowledgment receipts (ARs) for confidential funds.
It all started when Diokno was attacked by these trolls for allegedly receiving confidential funds. This, after the name "Jose Diokno, Jr." appeared on the ARs.
It had been established in the ongoing Senate impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte that her offices--the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and Department of Education (DepEd)--relied on ARs to liquidate P612.5 million worth of confidential funds released between December 2022 and the third quarter of 2023.
"Matagal na nilang ginagamit ang isyung ito para sirain ang pangalan ko. Linawin ko lang: Jose Manuel Diokno ang pangalan ko, hindi Jose Diokno, Jr.," wrote the lawyer-solon.
(They have long used this issue to tarnish my name. Let me clarify: my name is Jose Manuel Diokno, not Jose Diokno, Jr.)
"Pero sige, pagbigyan natin ang mga trolls (But fine, let's humor the trolls)," Diokno said as he switched gears from defense to offense.
"Kung sinasabi niyong nakatanggap ako ng confidential funds, eh 'di inamin n'yo na rin na mali ang paggastos ni VP Sara dito ????," he noted as he turned the tables on his online bashers with this simple logic.
(If you say I received confidential funds, then you admit as well that VP Sara’s spending of these was wrong.)
The dubious and absurd-sounding names on many of these ARs have led House members to believe that the P612.5 million secret funds weren't properly liquidated, or worse, misused. This constitutes one of the four articles of impeachment against the controversial Duterte.
"Kailanman hindi ako nakatanggap ng confidential funds. At kailanman hindi ako naging ahente ng Bise Presidente," Diokno stressed.
(I have never received confidential funds. And I have never been an agent of the Vice President.)
Article I claims the "systematic misuse" of the public money, which according to the prosecutors constitutes culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and betrayed public trust.
