Dennis Trillo appears to be taking a different approach.
When his 18-year-old son, Calix Andreas Ho, told him he wanted to explore acting, Dennis did not discourage him. Instead, the veteran Kapuso actor told his son to prepare for it properly and even offered to personally guide him through it.
Dennis also said he would personally conduct Calix's workshop when the time comes.
That willingness to guide Calix is particularly interesting because the young Ho already has a promising path of his own. He is a varsity fencer for the University of the Philippines and was named Rookie of the Year in the UAAP Season 88 Men's Fencing tournament.
Calix has also previously dabbled in modeling, but acting could be the next step if he decides to follow his father's footsteps.
For Dennis, though, supporting his son's ambitions does not mean simply preparing him for auditions or cameras. His role as a father appears to extend well beyond Calix's career.
The actor, who has described himself as a part-time actor and full-time father, also opened up about the changes happening in his son's personal life. Calix now has a girlfriend, who happens to be a fellow fencer, and has already introduced her to the family.
That has naturally prompted some fatherly reminders.
"Mag-iingat, palagi, dahil siyempre Tito, 'yung mga bata ngayon, mapupusok. Minsan hindi natin alam 'yung mga ginagawa nila, so mga paalala lang talaga 'yung magsisilbing reminder," Dennis said.
His concern becomes even more personal when it comes to one particular possibility he hopes his son will be prepared to face.
Dennis admitted that one thing he does not want Calix to repeat is becoming a father before he is ready.
"Gusto ko prepared at siguradong kaya niyang panindigan lahat ng responsibilities kapag nangyari 'yun," he said.
