Cook nabbed for indiscriminate firing in Taguig

Police arrested a 44-year-old cook for indiscriminate firing and illegal possession of a firearm in Taguig City on Monday, Aug. 10.

The suspect, known as alias Estelito, is a resident of Barangay Western Bicutan, Taguig.

Personnel from Taguig Police Sub-Station 2 responded to a report from the Western Bicutan barangay hall about indiscriminate gunfire along Champaca Street in Sitio Niño.

Upon arrival, officers saw the suspect holding a firearm. They ordered him to present a license to own and possess firearms or a permit to carry one outside his residence. He failed to produce any valid document, leading to his arrest.

A search recovered a .38-caliber revolver, two live rounds, and a spent shell.

The firearm and ammunition will be submitted to the Southern Police District Forensic Unit for ballistic examination and cross-matching. Verification requests are also being processed with the Regional Civil Security Unit–National Capital Region (RCSU-NCR) regarding the firearm’s registration status.

The suspect will face a complaint for violating Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Brig. Gen. Glenn Oliver Cinco, SPD director, said the police maintain a zero-tolerance policy against indiscriminate firing and loose firearms.
