Phinma returns to profitability on strength of education business

Published Aug 10, 2026 10:03 am

Del Rosario-led Phinma Corp. posted a turnaround in the first half of 2026, with a consolidated net income of ₱363.35 million and an attributable net income of ₱20.11 million from losses of ₱226.92 million and ₱455.06 million, respectively, in the same period last year.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) on Monday, Aug. 10, Phinma said this was despite an 11.7-percent decline in consolidated revenues to ₱9.55 billion in the first half of this year from ₱10.82 billion registered in the same period of 2025.

Phinma said this performance reflects the consistent growth in its education business; more efficient operations in the construction materials segment; the continuation of regional development projects in properties and community housing; and stable domestic demand in hospitality.

“The weaker economic environment tempered the performance this period: ongoing tensions in the Gulf region contributed to fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, higher borrowing costs, and continued caution among both businesses and consumers,” the firm said.

It added that, locally, these challenges were compounded by delays in government spending and a slowdown in construction activity.

“In the first half of the year, our strategic business units continued to adapt to challenging industry conditions and a softer economic environment,” said Phinma Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ramon R. del Rosario Jr.

He noted, “As we build on this progress, we look forward to key milestones in the months ahead, including the opening of the Panabo cement facility and the Porac insulated panels plant, as well as the continued growth in student enrollment across our schools.”

“While economic uncertainty lingers, we remain committed to pursuing opportunities that build on the strengths of our businesses and extend our impact to more Filipino families and communities,” Del Rosario added.

Phinma Education Holdings Inc. reported a 14-percent growth in revenues to ₱3.12 billion from ₱2.74 billion, while consolidated net income jumped 47 percent to ₱819.75 million from ₱558.21 million last year.

These figures were driven by sustained enrollment growth during the second semester of school year (SY) 2025-2026 and the summer term, as well as continued cost management initiatives to keep education affordable for low-income students.

Phinma’s construction materials segment continued to focus on operational efficiency, margin enhancement, and strategic growth investments amid a challenging market environment. The segment had combined revenues of ₱5.28 billion and a combined net loss of ₱35.59 million as of June 2026.

Phinma Property Holdings Corp. posted consolidated revenues of ₱698.02 million and a consolidated net loss of ₱378.64 million during the first half of 2026.

Meanwhile, Phinma’s hospitality segment generated combined revenues of ₱300.3 million and combined net income of ₱27.2 million for the first six months of the year.
