- Aly Pagaduan, lead singer of Sleep Alley passed away on June 2026. Manila Bulletin Entertainment got to ask Monty Macalino of Mayonnaise, who was also a former label manager of the band, on his thoughts of her passing and the band's disillusionment.
Mayonnaise's Monty Macalino paid tribute to late Sleep Alley vocalist Aly Pagaduan, recalling the alternative rock group’s potential while extending his condolences to her family and former bandmates.
Macalino spoke about Pagaduan’s passing during a media conference for the upcoming Navotas Music Festival 2026.
“So much talent in that group,” Macalino said, recalling how he saw considerable potential in the band during its early years.
He remembered that Viva Records became interested in Sleep Alley while the group was recording its first album.
Sleep Alley confirmed Pagaduan’s death in a June 1 social media statement, describing her as more than a band member but “part of the heart and soul” of the group. The band highlighted her passion, creativity and friendship, saying she touched the lives of both her bandmates and listeners.
The group did not disclose the cause of her death. Following her passing, Sleep Alley announced that it would close the chapter on the band as part of Pagaduan’s legacy.
Macalino said he was shocked by the news, particularly because he knew Pagaduan was also involved with other bands.
He extended his condolences on behalf of Yellow Room to Pagaduan’s loved ones and the entire Sleep Alley community.
He also hoped Pagaduan’s music would continue to be heard, suggesting that other artists could perform Sleep Alley songs as a tribute to the late vocalist and the band’s work.
“I hope that, kung pwede lang sana, kung may mga ibang tao na would pick up their songs and just to give tribute to such amazing talent na si Ally and the whole band, Sleep Alley,” he said.
Macalino added that Sleep Alley bassist Jude still occasionally reaches out to him for advice, making Pagaduan’s passing an even more significant loss.
Mayonnaise is set to perform at the inaugural Navotas Music Festival 2026 on Sept. 26 at the Navotas Convention Center.
Presented by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) – Navotas Chapter, the festival will also feature Cup of Joe, Maki, KAIA, and Room Session, alongside merchant booths, food hubs and lifestyle stalls.
