Marcos to decide on Quiboloy's extradition in 'couple of weeks' — Palace

President Marcos deemed it necessary to think over what action the government would take in response to the United States' request to extradite detained pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
Malacañang reiterated that the US request to extradite Quiboloy must undergo a thorough evaluation, stating the President would weigh the options and make a decision in "a couple of weeks."
"Opo, nakausap po natin kanina mismo ang Pangulo at sinabi po niya na kailangan po talaga itong pag-aralan mabuti pero in a couple of weeks ay magbibigay po sila ng anunsyo kung ano ang magiging desisyon para dito (Yes, we spoke with the President himself earlier, and he said that this really needs to be carefully studied. However, in a couple of weeks, they will announce what the decision will be on the matter)," Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said on Monday, Aug. 10.
According to Castro, extradition is covered by an agreement, specifically the treaty with the US, which includes its provisions.
The Philippine government, Castro added, has two options: either Quiboloy remains in the country while the case is heard in the Philippines, or the case here can be temporarily put on hold or suspended, allowing for his extradition and transfer to the United States.
The Palace official said she cannot yet say what the President is keen on doing.
"In a couple of weeks, saka niya sasabihin kung ano yung pwede niyang stance patungkol dito (In a couple of weeks, he will announce what his position will be on the matter)," Castro said.
"So, lahat naman ito ay dapat na dumaan sa proseso dahil may batas naman po tayo. At mag-de-decide po sila, ibibigay niya po kung ano yung dapat na gawin patungkol dito (Everything has to go through the proper process because we have laws in place. They will make a decision, and he will announce what needs to be done regarding the matter)," Castro added.
On Aug. 6, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed it received the US government's request for Quiboloy's extradition and endorsed the matter to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Quiboloy was taken into government custody on Sept. 8, 2024, after he surrendered to authorities inside the 30-hectare KOJC compound in Davao City following a 16-day police operation to serve his arrest warrant.
