La Mesa Dam just 0.04 meter below spilling level; PAGASA warns of flooding

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned of possible flooding in low-lying communities along the Tullahan River as La Mesa Dam in Quezon City neared its spilling level on Monday, Aug. 10.
PAGASA said in its Hydrological Dam Situationer No. 1 issued at 11:10 a.m. that La Mesa Dam’s water level was at 80.11 meters as of 11 a.m., just 0.04 meter below its 80.15-meter overflow spilling level.
“Waters from La Mesa Dam are expected to affect the low-lying areas along the Tullahan River from Quezon City (Fairview, Forest Hills Subd., Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome), Caloocan City, Valenzuela (North Expressway, La Huerta Subd.), Malabon and Navotas,” PAGASA warned.
The agency said excess floodwaters from La Mesa Dam would overflow once the water level reaches 80.15 meters.
PAGASA advised residents in the affected areas, especially those living near riverbanks, to remain alert for possible flash floods.
