La Mesa Dam breaches 80.15-meter spilling level

Residents in low-lying areas along the Tullahan River were warned of possible flooding after La Mesa Dam breached its overflow level on Monday afternoon, Aug. 10, amid incessant rains brought by the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
As of 5 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the dam’s water level reached 80.17 meters, exceeding its 80.15-meter spilling level.
PAGASA said excess water from the dam was expected to overflow and affect low-lying areas along the Tullahan River.
These areas include Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome in Quezon City; parts of Caloocan City; North Expressway and La Huerta Subdivision in Valenzuela; Malabon; and Navotas.
Residents in the affected areas, particularly those living near riverbanks, were advised to take appropriate action.
PAGASA said it would continue monitoring the hydrological condition of La Mesa Dam and provide updates to concerned agencies and local government units.
