Jisoo explains tears after BLACKPINK's 10th anniversary event
BLACKPINK’s Jisoo has explained why she broke down in tears after the group’s 10th anniversary celebration on Aug. 8.
Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa gathered at the National Museum of Korea, where they met with 40 fans to mark a decade since BLACKPINK’s debut.
Videos taken after the event showed Jisoo crying inside a vehicle. The following day, she took to Weverse to explain what she was feeling and address possible misunderstandings surrounding the celebration.
Jisoo said it was difficult for the members to express everything they wanted to say during the event because of the circumstances surrounding their 10th anniversary.
"I think everyone found it difficult to speak easily yesterday because the boundary between what you want to say, what you can say, what is acceptable to say, and what doesn't necessarily need to be said is difficult," she said.
Despite this, Jisoo stressed that the four members continue to care deeply for one another.
She said they "love each other so, so, so much" and that she wanted to express how much they cherish their relationship.
Jisoo also asked fans not to read too much into her tears.
"I hope people don't attach multiple meanings to my tears," she said. "I just want to gather various emotions and summarize them as the touching feeling of having been together for 10 years."
She also pushed back against the idea that her crying meant she was more hurt or sincere than the other members.
"Since I cried in public for the first time, was I the most sincere and upset person this time? I don't think that is the right way to think," she said.
Jisoo went on to talk about how misunderstandings can develop when people do not communicate with each other.
She also expressed hope that the group's 10th anniversary would not become a source of further speculation or negative discussion.
"It might be frustrating, but regarding our 10th anniversary—which we should have celebrated together (even though we have already caused some disappointment)—I think, I really hope that no more negative talk or endless speculations will come out," she said.
Reflecting on BLACKPINK's decade together, Jisoo added: "Wow, working together for 10 years. Wow, liking each other for 10 years. We must be amazing people. Thank you."
The anniversary celebration had drawn attention even before it took place. Fans had previously called on YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK's agency, to organize a major event for the group's 10th anniversary.
However, some fans were disappointed when details of the event were announced only two days before it took place. Reports also circulated that only three members would attend, but those reports later proved to be incorrect.
All four BLACKPINK members ultimately attended the anniversary gathering.
