GSIS readies up to ₱40,000 in emergency loans for Maymay, Habagat victims
State-run pension fund Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is ready to extend up to ₱40,000 in emergency loans to members and pensioners affected by Tropical Storm Maymay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, once their areas are officially placed under a state of calamity.
In a statement on Monday, Aug. 10, GSIS said eligible members and pensioners with existing emergency loans may borrow up to ₱40,000, part of which will be used to settle their outstanding emergency loan balance, with the remainder released to the borrower.
Those without existing emergency loans may borrow up to ₱20,000.
GSIS’ emergency loan carries an interest rate of six percent per year and is payable over three years.
To qualify, active members must reside or work in an area declared under a state of calamity, be in active service and not on leave of absence without pay, and have no pending administrative or criminal case.
They must also have paid their premiums within the six months prior to application and maintain a net take-home pay of at least ₱5,000 after loan deductions, as required under the General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Old-age and disability pensioners residing in declared calamity areas may also apply, provided their net monthly pension after the loan deduction is at least 25 percent of their basic monthly pension.
Applications may be filed through GSIS Touch mobile app, available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
