  • Gary Valenciano gives his OPM classic "Babalik Ka Rin" a fresh 2026 rendition, bringing new emotion to a song long associated with the sacrifices, longing and homecoming dreams of Overseas Filipino Workers and their families.

For generations of Filipinos, “Babalik Ka Rin” has been more than a Gary Valenciano hit. The song has become closely associated with the lives of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families, capturing the longing, sacrifice and hope that come with leaving home to build a better life.

Now, more than three decades after it was first released, Gary V is giving the OPM favorite a new rendition.

The 2026 version retains the emotional pull of the original while giving it a fresh sound and feel. Gary’s familiar voice brings a different weight to a song that has remained relevant to Filipinos who know what it means to leave home and to those waiting for them to return.

Originally composed and produced by Louie Ocampo, with lyrics by Dudu Ulep, “Babalik Ka Rin” was introduced in the early 1990s and eventually became one of Valenciano’s signature songs.

Its connection to OFW life has only grown through the years.

For many Filipinos working abroad, the song mirrors the experience of leaving loved ones behind, enduring the loneliness of being away and holding on to the promise of coming home.

The new version comes with a music video that follows the realities of overseas Filipino life, from long work hours and difficult conditions to missed family milestones and the quiet moments of homesickness.

It also features actual homecoming videos submitted by Filipinos from different parts of the world, showing the hugs, tears and reunions that make the journey worthwhile.

For Gary, returning to “Babalik Ka Rin” was also a chance to revisit a song that has remained close to Filipino listeners.

“For more than 30 years, ‘Babalik Ka Rin’ has held a special place in the hearts of Filipinos, especially our Overseas Filipinos,” Gary said. “I hope this new version reminds them that every sacrifice has meaning, every goodbye carries hope, and no matter how far life takes them, home and the people they love will always be waiting.”

The new recording was made for Sendwave’s “Between Here And Home” campaign, which centers on the experiences of Filipinos living and working abroad.

But beyond the campaign, the return of “Babalik Ka Rin” gives music fans a chance to hear one of Gary V’s enduring songs through a new recording while revisiting a piece of OPM that has long been tied to the Filipino experience of leaving home and finding a way back.
