Gabby Lopez sells holding company shares to Ramon Ang
Ramon S. Ang and Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III
Tycoon Ramon S. Ang has acquired a 25.68 percent stake in Lopez Inc., the holding company of the storied Lopez family, buying out the shareholding of former ABS-CBN Corp. Chairman Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III in one of the country’s biggest corporate shifts in recent years.
The transaction was executed through Crème Investment Corp., the vehicle representing Gabby Lopez’s branch of the family. In a mobile message, Ang confirmed the purchase of “Gabby’s shares,” noting that the investment was made in a personal capacity through his wholly owned holding company rather than through his main business empire.
The acquisition gives Ang personal exposure to a major corporate portfolio spanning energy, real estate, and media. Lopez Inc. holds controlling interests in listed firms, including energy producer First Gen Corp., property developer Rockwell Land Corp., and broadcast group ABS-CBN Corp.
Ang serves as chairman and chief executive officer of San Miguel Corp., which already holds dominant market positions in power generation through SMC Global Power Holdings Corp. and real estate development through San Miguel Properties Inc., alongside its flagship infrastructure, beverage, and food operations.
In a statement announcing the completion of the sale, Lopez cited two main drivers behind the decision to divest from the family’s core holding unit.
“The first is my family,” Lopez said. “This dispute has not been good for any of us, or for the people who work in our companies. This allows us to take a step towards the restoration of family peace.”
Lopez added that the exit enables his family branch to reallocate capital into alternative ventures. “The second is that it allows me to channel our family’s resources into businesses aligned with our personal mission. We will announce more on this in due time. Our families have known Ramon a long time. I am confident he will be a good partner to Lopez, Inc.”
Ang noted that his entry is intended to bring stability to the group without disrupting current management structures.
“I have known the Lopez family for decades. Not one branch of it, but all of them. I am a friend to each, and I intend to stay that way,” Ang said. “I came in because I believe in these businesses, and because a steady partner at the table can be good for everyone around it. The family branches that continue to hold the controlling majority of Lopez, Inc. will continue to lead it. My interest is that the group comes out of this stronger.”
The deal was first reported by news outlet Bilyonaryo.com, with InsiderPH later identifying Ang as the buyer before official statements were issued
