The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Monday, Aug. 10, said it has P6 billion in standby funds and more than 4.98 million family food packs (FFPs) prepositioned nationwide as it continues to assist those affected by the enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat’ and tropical cyclones “Luis” and “Maymay.”
According to DSWD Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, the agency continues to produce FFPs every day at its major warehouses in Luzon and Visayas to maintain its stockpile and keep relief supplies ready for immediate deployment during disasters.
“At present we have [close to] five million family food packs prepositioned in more than a thousand warehouses across the country,” Dumlao, who is also the spokesperson of the DSWD, said during a television interview.
“Every day nag-pro-produce pa rin kami ng family food packs sa Luzon Disaster Resource Center and sa Visayas Disaster Resources Center (Every day, we continue to produce family food packs at the Luzon Disaster Resource Center and the Visayas Disaster Resource Center),” she added.
Under the Buong Bansa Handa (BBH) program, Dumlao said the DSWD partners with large groceries, supermarkets, and other private-sector entities through framework agreements to strengthen its disaster response supply chain.
This allows the agency to preposition relief goods even in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs), she added.

“Dahil doon sa programa natin na Buong Bansa Handa program, we are able to preposition goods doon sa mga areas that are hazard prone (Through our Buong Bansa Handa program, we are able to preposition goods in hazard-prone areas),” the spokesperson said.
“Kaya nga up to the last miles sa mga geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas ay mayroon tayong warehouses at may mga goods tayo na naka-prepositioned (Even in the last-mile communities in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas, we have warehouses and prepositioned relief goods).”
The DSWD reported that as of 6 a.m. on Aug. 10, it had provided affected families and individuals with 54,370 FFPs, 2,722 RTEF boxes, and 1,376 NFIs.
As such, the agency said it extended P928,000 in financial aid through the AICS program
Dumlao underscored that the DSWD continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with local government units (LGUs) to determine the needs of affected communities.
“Ang instruction po ni Secretary Rex Gatchalian ay makipag-coordinate sa mga local stakeholders to ensure that all the needed assistance are provided (Secretary Rex Gatchalian instructed us to coordinate with local stakeholders to ensure that all the necessary assistance is provided),” she said.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson said volunteers may help the DSWD repack FFPs as the agency continues to replenish its relief stockpile amid the ongoing weather disturbances.
“Bukas po ang Luzon Disaster Resource Center at ang Visayas  Disaster Resource Center para sa mga nagnanais na tumulong sa pag-repack ng mga family food packs (The Luzon Disaster Resource Center and the Visayas Disaster Resource Center are open to those who wish to help repack family food packs),” she said.
“Kung mayroon pong nagnanais na tumulong, maari lang pong magtungo sa LDRC [sa Pasay City] o VDRC diyan po sa Mandaue City (Those who wish to help may proceed to the LDRC in Pasay City or the VDRC in Mandaue City).”
