Dagupan City placed under state of calamity amid widespread flooding

DAGUPAN CITY — Dagupan City has been placed under a state of calamity following widespread flooding that has affected thousands of residents across the city.

Base on the CDRRMO Situational Report No. 15 cited in a Facebook post by Mayor Belen Fernandez, 23 of the city’s 31 barangays remain affected by flooding, with a total of 22,047 families or 90,015 individuals affected.

At least 65 families, or 202 individuals, have been preemptively evacuated to six designated evacuation centers.

Several major roads in the city have also become impassable to light vehicles, while classes at all levels have been suspended for seven consecutive days due to the prevailing conditions.

In line with this  the Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution declaring the city under a State of Calamity, following the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC).

The declaration is expected to facilitate the use of available funds and resources for relief operations, as well as for emergency response, rehabilitation, and other immediate needs of affected residents.

The city government also said price controls on basic necessities and prime commodities will be implemented.

 Authorities were directed to monitor possible overpricing, profiteering, and hoarding.

Acting Mayor Dean Bryan Kua attended the regular session via Zoom, where the city’s flooding situation and the immediate needs of affected residents were discussed.

Meanwhile, the CDRRMO, barangay officials, rescue teams, health workers, and other frontliners remain on alert as authorities continue monitoring flood-affected areas.
