Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) monitors CCTV feeds and flood conditions in real time at the command center as continuous rains from the southwest monsoon affect several parts of the city, August 9, 2026.

Flooding persisted in multiple parts of the capital by Sunday afternoon, Aug. 9, as continuous rains from the southwest monsoon (habagat), enhanced by Tropical Depression “Maymay,” inundated key roads and low-lying communities.

As of 2:02 p.m., the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported gutter-deep to half-gutter-deep flooding along several sections of Taft Avenue, including Quirino Avenue, Escoda Street, and the NBI/United Nations area, though all remained passable to all types of vehicles.

The Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MCDRRMD) earlier flagged a wider list of flooded areas across the city, including Taft Avenue (NBI, PGH, Pedro Gil, and Vito Cruz), United Nations Avenue, Padre Faura, Roxas Boulevard service road, España Boulevard, Blumentritt, and areas near the Manila North Cemetery.

Floodwaters reached up to one foot in parts of Taft Avenue, corner General Malvar, and España Boulevard, corner Antipolo Street, while several other roads experienced gutter-deep flooding.

A fallen tree also struck a vehicle along Lacson Avenue late Saturday night near the Laon Laan–Dimasalang intersection. No injuries were reported, and clearing operations were immediately carried out, allowing traffic to resume.

In Sta. Mesa, particularly Barangay 598 along Likha Street near the San Juan River, authorities continued close monitoring after continuous overnight rains, with the situation reported stable as of 10:00 a.m.

Elsewhere in Metro Manila, flooding was also reported in Mandaluyong, where F. Ortigas Avenue corner Boni Avenue remained gutter-deep but passable, and in Quezon City, where floodwaters reached about three inches along Araneta Avenue in Barangay Tatalon past noon.

In Makati, clearing operations continued along EDSA after a subdivision wall collapsed a day earlier due to the rains.

The weather disturbance also triggered evacuations and emergencies in several areas.

In Marikina, around 1,900 residents have been evacuated to various centers as water levels are being monitored.

In Muntinlupa, at least 31 families (132 individuals) were displaced and brought to evacuation centers in Barangays Putatan and Tunasan, as well as Bagong Silang Elementary School. Authorities are closely monitoring lakeside communities, with Laguna Lake’s water level at 11.68 meters, still below the critical 12.5-meter mark.

In Taguig, a landslide struck Medel Extension in Barangay Central Signal, forcing the evacuation of one family while four others were being assisted. Emergency responders were deployed, and aid was provided to affected residents.

PAGASA said the habagat, intensified by the tropical depression, continues to bring prolonged rainfall over Metro Manila, raising the risk of further flooding.

Authorities remain on high alert, with rescue teams on standby and residents in flood-prone areas urged to stay vigilant, avoid inundated roads, and follow evacuation advisories as rains persist.
