First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos received an early birthday surprise from Kris Aquino and her sons, Josh and Bimby, who brought several cakes for her ahead of her Aug. 21 birthday.
In a Facebook post on Sunday evening, Aug. 9, the First Lady thanked the Aquino family for the gesture.
“Thank you, Kris, Josh, and Bimby for the lovely advanced birthday cakes! Such a thoughtful surprise that truly warmed my heart. Feeling very blessed,” she wrote.
The accompanying photo showed Araneta-Marcos smiling beside Kris, Josh, and Bimby, with four decorated birthday cakes in front of them.
The latest encounter is another public interaction between the Marcos and Aquino families, who have long been identified with opposing political camps in Philippine history.
In July 2024, Josh and Bimby visited the First Lady in her office, a meeting that President Marcos described as a personal and “human interaction” between the two families.
Marcos said at the time that the families had “always been okay” personally, adding, “We just don’t agree politically.”
The President also explained that Araneta-Marcos is related to the Aquino family through marriage and described her as an aunt of Josh and Bimby.
The two families' interactions continued in March this year when Araneta-Marcos hosted Kris at Malacañan for a belated birthday lunch, with Marcos briefly joining them for a photo.
The First Lady and Kris had also been seen together at Leyva's birthday celebration in October 2025, another occasion that brought members of the two families together in public.
The personal ties between the families have occasionally crossed paths with significant dates in their political history, with Araneta-Marcos' birthday falling on Aug. 21, the same day the country commemorates the assassination of Kris' father, former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., in 1983.
The late senator Aquino was known as a staunch critic of former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
