President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. conferred the Order of Sikatuna on outgoing Hungarian Ambassador to the Philippines Dr. Titanilla Tóth, recognizing her contributions to strengthening relations between the Philippines and Hungary as she concludes her diplomatic posting in Manila.
Tóth received the honor during her farewell call on the President at Malacañan Palace on July 29.
“It’s always a little bit sad to see you go. But thank you for everything that you have done,” Marcos told the ambassador, adding that she would have many reasons to return to the Philippines.
The Order of Sikatuna is among the highest distinctions conferred by the Philippine government on foreign diplomats and officials who have contributed significantly to the country’s international relations. Established in 1953, the order takes its name from Datu Sikatuna of Bohol and the historic blood compact with Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi in 1565.

Tóth leaves Manila after a posting that saw Philippine-Hungarian cooperation expand across diplomacy, trade, education, agriculture, research, and cultural exchange.
The Philippines and Hungary established diplomatic relations in 1973. In recent years, Hungary has also supported the early conclusion of negotiations for a Philippines-European Union Free Trade Agreement, which is expected to further expand opportunities for trade and investment.
As part of her farewell engagements, Tóth met with Senate President Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian, with discussions touching on interparliamentary dialogue, educational cooperation, and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
She also paid a farewell call on Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, where both sides looked back on developments in bilateral relations during her tenure.
The Department of Foreign Affairs recognized the Hungarian Embassy’s work in promoting cultural diplomacy and educational exchanges, as well as cooperation in agriculture, research, trade, and other areas of mutual interest.

Education has been an important component of Hungary’s engagement with the Philippines, complementing broader efforts to create stronger links between institutions and people in both countries.
Tóth’s final round of meetings reflected the range of relationships cultivated during her posting—from the country’s highest political offices to institutions involved in education, culture, research, and commerce.
Her departure closes one chapter in a diplomatic relationship now spanning more than five decades, with both Manila and Budapest looking to build on the areas of cooperation developed during her tenure.
